On a day that saw three All-American performances and three school records shattered, New York University concluded its trip to the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with a best-ever, ninth-place finish.
Overall, the Violets accumulated 139 points for their first-ever, top-10 finish on the strength of 10 All-American efforts (4 top-eight, 6 top-16/Honorable Mention) and seven new program marks established.
"It was great to score in the top-10. That was our goal as a team," NYU head coach Bob Sorensen said. "Everybody swam well."
Junior Andrew Lardiere garnered All-America honors in seven events at the NCAA Championships, including two more designations Saturday. He placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a Violet-record clocking of 44.75 seconds, just .39 seconds off the winning pace established by Kenyon College's Joshua Mitchell.
Lardiere capped his stellar showing at the nationals by swimming the anchor leg (44.17) on Nye's 400 freestyle relay that took seventh in a program-best 3:02.77. Sophomore Eric Pcholinski and seniors Brad Thornton and Christopher Wolff raced the opening legs for the Violets.
"It was a team effort that helped us finish ninth, but in particular Andrew Lardiere did an outstanding job," Sorensen said.
Also on Saturday, junior Paul Hogan concluded his season by earning Honorable Mention All-America honors, placing ninth in the 1,650 freestyle in 15:50.36.
